Early Years Foundation Stage Profile Assessment Support: Formative Assessment (Autumn Term)
Course overview
Facilitated by the Hackney Early Years Team, the aims of the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage Profile Assessment Support’ are to build clarity and confidence in EYFS profile assessment, share best practice, strengthen the reliability of practitioner judgements, promote consistent assessment by addressing misconceptions and support effective ongoing assessment across the breadth of early years.
There will be three different sessions across the academic year, with the focus of the autumn term being on ‘formative assessment’. This session introduces how Reception teachers can use everyday formative assessment to understand and support children’s learning, alongside effective transition practice into Reception.
This training is suitable for:
Priority: Reception teachers and others making EYFSP judgements. Colleagues in schools outside of Reception (e.g. SENCOs, Nursery teachers EY leads, NQTs, Year 1 staff) may also find value where appropriate, but they are not the main target group for these sessions.
Please note - This will be the same session, repeated three times (to offer a range of dates/times). You therefore only need to attend one session in the autumn term.

Early Years Foundation Stage Profile Assessment Support: Professional Dialogue (Summer Term)
Course overview
Facilitated by the Hackney Early Years Team, the aims of the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage Profile Assessment Support’ are to build clarity and confidence in EYFS profile assessment, share best practice, strengthen the reliability of practitioner judgements, promote consistent assessment by addressing misconceptions and support effective ongoing assessment across the breadth of early years.
There will be three different sessions across the academic year, with the focus of the summer term being on ‘professional dialogue’. This session creates a supportive space for practitioners to strengthen confidence, clarity, and consistency in assessment through high‑quality professional dialogue, shared interpretation of criteria, and reflection on GLD data.
This training is suitable for:
Priority: Reception teachers and others making EYFSP judgements. Colleagues in schools outside of Reception (e.g. SENCOs, Nursery teachers EY leads, NQTs, Year 1 staff) may also find value where appropriate, but they are not the main target group for these sessions.
Please note - This will be the same session, repeated twice (to offer a range of times). You therefore only need to attend one session in the summer term.

There will be three different sessions across the academic year, with the focus of the Spring term being on ‘Summative assessment’. This session helps Reception teachers make confident, consistent EYFSP judgements, looks at the best-fit model, and strengthens professional dialogue
This training is suitable for:
Priority: Reception teachers and others making EYFSP judgements. Colleagues in schools outside of Reception (e.g. SENCOs, Nursery teachers EY leads, NQTs, Year 1 staff) may also find value where appropriate, but they are not the main target group for these sessions.

Early Years Leaders Forum (School)
Course overview
This termly forum provides the opportunity for Early Years Leaders and members of Senior Leadership Teams in schools to share effective practice, develop leadership skills and keep up-to-date with current Early Years issues. The forum provides an opportunity to build local area relationships and to support sustainable improvements in practice.
This training is suitable for:

Hackney Forest School Lead Accredited Training Level 3
COURSE STRUCTURE
- First initial training consists of 5 Day immersive week
- Reunite for a full packed 2 days of practical skills, followed by 3 days of ethos and learning
- Each Level 3 Trainee receives an individual, supportive on-site visit
- Portfolio development: one year from the initial training week to develop their portfolio. Six Forest school sessions are required as evidence
- Trainees will also be required to organise their first aid training during this period, which is not included in the cost of the course
- Hand in portfolio of evidence, one year on from initial training week, or sooner
- Discount off for trainees booking onto cpd training workshops coordinated by HFS
Level 3 Certificate for Forest School Leaders: This qualification is intended to provide the skills and knowledge required to set up and deliver safe and effective Forest School programmes, for those who wish to become Forest School Leaders. Download the qualification specification here.
All of our Forest School training courses are certified by ITC First, who are approved by and meet the requirements of the Forest School Association.

Managing the Supervision Process
Course overview
This course enables participants to explore the performance management cycle and gain the practical skills required to implement robust supervision for monitoring staff performance and development.
- To understand the importance of planning a recruitment exercise, making the right decisions and using structured interviews.
- To look at pre-employment checks on candidates selected for an interview.
- To examine the need for ongoing awareness and vigilance and consider how PVI settings can develop and maintain an environment that deters and prevents abuse and challenges inappropriate behaviour.
This training is suitable for:
- Managers, senior leaders, owners, trustees and management committee members who have responsibility for recruiting people to PVI settings.

Course overview
This course is designed to focus on managers of registered Early Years childcare settings on what to expect from an inspection, covering statutory requirements, policies and documentation, staffing and evaluation. This course will provide managers with the tools to lead an inspection in order to show the provision at its best, and enable their staff to feel empowered and confident to manage the inspection process. The course will focus on the welfare requirements and Learning and Developments aspects.

Course overview
Professional Development Network (PDN) meetings are run by a range of Local Authority professionals with the principal aim of ensuring that Early Years practice across Hackney is of the highest quality. PDN meetings offer a unique opportunity to discuss local and national developments.
These meetings also provide settings leaders and managers with a forum to network and share good practice, build local area relationships and to support sustainable improvements in practice. They are also used to consult with providers upon any proposed changes to policy and practice.
