1st Session - 10th October 2024:
- Disciplinary and grievance: This session is designed to help school leaders conduct an appropriate investigation and disciplinary hearing, and understand the different sanctions that employees may be given. We will look into our policy to explore best practice and ensure procedures are fair, and consistent. You will also understand what happens when an employee raises a grievance, how to investigate and the appeals process.
2nd Session - 24th January 2025:
- Safer Recruitment and Selection: This workshop will provide an overview of how to ensure your school’s recruitment and selection processes are compliant with Keeping Children Safe in Education. The course will include a summary of the statutory guidance associated with safer recruitment and selection in schools. There will be an overview of safer recruitment and selection processes and also looking at how to carry out the correct safeguarding checks including online searches.
3rd Session -13th June 2025:
- Capability: This session will enable you to deal with under-performance issues within your school. You will learn to understand the difference between capability and conduct issues and how to deal with them informally and formally.

Ofsted recently unveiled a set of reforms intended to ease the pressures on teachers and school leaders during inspections. These changes, prompted by feedback from educators, aim to uphold the rigour and accuracy of inspections while reducing stress for those involved.
In our upcoming briefing session, John Kennedy HMI will update school leaders on the significant changes Ofsted is implementing following the Big Listen, and any changes arising from the recent change in Government. Key updates from the latest version of the Ofsted Handbook will be highlighted, including the temporary pause on inspections and a renewed emphasis on wellbeing. The session will provide an overview of recent training programs for Ofsted Inspectors, as well as an analysis of published data since the Summer term. We will delve into Ofsted's key focus on starting with impact and working backwards to intent, with particular attention to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. The way that Ofsted inspects schools significantly changed in 2019 and has been subject to more recent changes with the publication of a new Education Inspection Framework this year. There were 28 Ofsted inspections in Hackney last year and common trends learned from these inspections will be shared. The sessions have been updated to reflect the current changes to inspection and what inspectors are looking for.
Course overview
These three short sessions senior school leaders will explore Ofsted inspection practice in all settings. Led by Calvin Henry with up to date, practical experience of inspecting schools across both all sectors, these sessions will support school leaders to:
- Understand how Ofsted will evaluate the quality of education and know the different approaches to graded and ungraded inspections.
- Consider the judgements for Behaviour & Attitudes, Personal Development, 6th Form/ EYFS and the impact these judgements will have on Leadership and Management.
- Prepare for a successful interview with the lead inspector, including the initial telephone conversation.
- Consider how to refine practices and prepare staff for a positive inspection outcome.

Introduction
This session delves into the crucial role governors play in Ofsted inspections, addressing changes in the education inspection framework (2019) and their implications for diverse school types. It emphasises the contribution of governors/trustees to oversight and strategic direction, applying equally to maintained, voluntary aided, academy, and independent registered status schools in various partnerships and federations.
Course objectives:
- The key changes in the new Ofsted inspection and reporting process, which was introduced in September 2019.
- How the four key judgements are used by Ofsted when evaluating the overall effectiveness of your school and how might schools need to refine their practices to address changes.
