How to lead a dynamic reading curriculum

Course overview

This course will focus on how to create meaningful space for change in your reading curriculum, ethos and impact. We will explore how to interpret information and grow provision within your school, developing a profession and overview to raise the quality and systems of a reading curriculum.

Sessions

  1. What kind of readers do we want in our school? How does reading culture build aspiration and expectation?
  2. What information do you have and what do you need? How do you know? Identifying common issues. How do we use data and how do we know what is put in place is working?
  3. What’s the purpose of creating a reading curriculum?
  4. Is policy seen in practice? How do you know?
  5. How do we maintain this? Looking ahead / school development / reading expertise

Teaching Assistants as Primary Leaders of Reading

Course overview

To develop experienced teaching assistants or HLTAS in how to develop and manage reading opportunities for all children. Becoming a reading expert.  Impact building a reading team and develop reading knowledge and expertise in 1:1, small group and whole class.

Sessions

6 sessions to align with implementation opportunities in school:

  1. Review of expectations across the school from Reception through to year 6. 
  2. What are the rewards of reading?
  3. How assessment informs 1-1, small group, and whole class reading sessions.
  4. Working with exceptional children
  5. Developing independence
  6. Ensuring that reading is central to a school’s literacy culture.
